Product Specification

The Smoothing Jack Plane No. 5 is a versatile, high-quality woodworking hand plane designed for smoothing, jointing, flattening and trimming timber to final size. Its balanced size and weight make it an excellent all-purpose bench plane for both professional woodworkers and serious woodworking enthusiasts.

Built for efficient material removal and fine finishing, this No. 5 Jack Plane can handle a wide range of woodworking tasks, from preparing rough timber to producing exceptionally fine shavings on demanding or dense woods.

The plane body and frog are manufactured from strong ductile cast iron, providing excellent rigidity, durability and stability during use. The sole and sides are precision-lapped flat across their entire length, helping provide accurate and consistent results.

The frog and frog seating are based on early traditional hand plane designs. The fully machined seating provides full-surface contact between the frog and plane body, giving the cutting iron excellent stability and helping minimise movement.

The cutting iron can be advanced to create an almost zero-clearance mouth opening, allowing the plane to produce exceptionally fine shavings and helping reduce tear-out when working with dense, figured or difficult timber.

The mouth opening can also be adjusted without removing the frog and cutting iron assembly.
